Learn how to apply to become an Engineer-In-Training or a Geoscientist-In-Training.
Application Information for:
Engineer-In-Training
General
All applications must be TYPED, or completed legibly in INK in all aspects before they are placed before the Association's Admissions Committee for their subsequent recommendation to Council.
Four years of acceptable engineering experience (as set out in the APEGNB Guidelines for Acceptable Experience for Engineers-In-Training) are necessary for registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's Degree counts as one year's experience.
Certification of Degree
Graduates with an engineering degree from an Accredited Canadian University, other than the University of New Brunswick or Université de Moncton, must arrange to have a letter from the Registrar mailed directly to APEGNB. Graduates who complete the requirements for their degrees in December and wish to apply for enrolment as an EIT prior to May must also arrange for a letter to be sent to APEGNB, since lists of graduates are not available until after the May convocation.
Fees and Dues
Association and Branch dues are waived for the first calendar year. (i.e. your dues will be waived until December 31st of the year in which you enroll.)
Log Book
Council has recommended the implementation of a more structured program for Engineers-in-Training. As of January 1, 1998, all EITs will be required to keep a log book detailing their engineering work for the duration of their required experience. Log Books must be submitted 3 times during the four year work experience requirement: after 6 months of employment; then again after 2 years; and finally after three years of employment.
Professional Practice Examination
This two hour, closed book examination is designed to ensure familiarity with Professional Practice and Ethics, and Engineering Law and Professional Liability.
It is a prerequisite for future registration as a professional engineer unless the examination has been successfully written in another province through an Association of Professional Engineers or the course material has been covered in your university program in New Brunswick .
